Infinite Closure by Steve Baylis

Artwork

Infinite Closure

Medium
Oil and cold wax on Baltic birch panel
Series
Series 3
Process
Stained and bleached panel, transparent gesso, five transparent glazes, large initial marks, five further glazes, then smaller marks and highlights.

Marks extracted from this painting form part of the Rebirth library.

Artwork note

Larger shapes in cream, beige, pale blue, and warm grey remain just visible beneath a dense field of white and near-white marks. Small traces of pink, green, and yellow alter the temperature of the surface without breaking its high-key range. The square is built through close differences rather than strong dark-light contrast.
